Last year came to theaters worldwide ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’ (Paul WS Anderson, 2012), fifth installment of a franchise is not very well appreciated by critics, but been showing of commercial profitability. Raised some doubts about this last point after the release of ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’, but Sony has finally given the green light to a sixth-it appears to be the last in the series starring Milla Jovovich, which should be ready by September 12, 2014.
The franchise had been on the rise in both budgets as revenue from its first delivery to the fourth, as Resident Evil (Paul WS Anderson, 2002) entered 102 million at a cost of 33 compared to the 296 million raised by ‘Resident Evil: Afterlife’ (Paul WS Anderson, 2010) with a budget of 60 million.
The problem is that ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’ was the most expensive of all 65 million dollars, and its recovery was significantly lower than that of its predecessor, more than 220 million. This together with the statements of Paul W. S. Anderson during the promotional campaign for the fourth installment saying his plan was to shoot a second trilogy and the particularities of the outcome of ‘Resident Evil: Retribution’ give strength to this theory yet to be confirmed, since nothing is known about the plot of ‘Resident Evil 6′ (2014).
PD: Anderson was scheduled to shoot soon ‘Pompeii’, so that movie or postponed or Sony will have to hire another filmmaker for this sixth installment of ‘Resident Evil’.
